27 Sep Hyde offers colorful professional development opportunity
This week, The Hyde sent out an email to educators, reminding them of all the incredible opportunities coming up at the Museum!
Professional Development Workshop
3:30 to 5 pm Friday, October 18
The Hyde Collection — along with members of the High School Juried Show committee — are launching an initiative to offer professional development workshops that highlight studio techniques inspired by student artwork featured in the High School Juried Show, which is now in its twenty-ninth year.
For the first session, the Museum will host South Glens Falls High School educator Amy Noonan, who will discuss her Photorealism Colored Pencil Project. Amy will share how she navigates students through this challenging assignment, in which they learn about color theory, drawing from reflective surfaces, and navigating rules of composition and proportion. Instruction includes sharing aspects of the lesson plan from start to finish and a practical component for educators to experience the assignment firsthand.
Each year, visitors marvel over Amy’s students’ colored pencil artworks in the High School Juried Show at The Hyde. This workshop will share tricks of the trade and how Amy inspires students to succeed at such a high level of technical achievement year after year.
Prismacolor brand pencils are required to participate in this workshop. The Hyde will provide all other supplies.
REGISTRATION is $20 for those who need all supplies provided; the Museum will offer a $5 discount for teachers who are able to bring their own Prismacolor pencil set.
TO REGISTER, please contact Curator of Museum Education and Programming Jenny Hutchinson at 518-792-1761, ext. 327, or email@example.com.
High School Juried Show Committee
4 pm Wednesday, October 9
Want to play a greater role in The Hyde Collection’s annual High School Juried Show?
The committee is a collective of area teachers, Hyde staff, and community members that coordinates and supports the needs and overall goals of the Juried Show. Committee members serve as liaisons between schools (representing teachers and students) and The Hyde Collection staff.
Your feedback and suggestions are integral to the overall coordination of the show, so any teacher with interest in learning more about the coordination of the show is encouraged to join!
TO LEARN MORE or to RSVP, please contact Jenny Hutchinson, curator of Museum education and programming, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
