July Children’s Workshops
Treat your children to an art adventure during school break! The Hyde Collection’s half-day Children’s Workshops offer experiences to transport kids to a world of color and excitement.
This July, your children can explore a different art discipline each week, broadening their understanding of art and discovering new passions. Workshops are held from 10 am to 12:30 pm for ages 5 to 8, and from 2 to 4:30 pm for ages 9 to 12, at the Museum. Your child can attend one day, or an entire three-day session. A single day is $20 for members and $25 for non-members; a three-day session is $45 for members and $60 for non-members.
The workshops are offered in two sessions:
Ages 5 – 8, from 10 am to 12:30 pm
Ages 9 – 12, from 2 to 4:30 pm
Sign your child up for one day, or for the entire week! See the daily project themes below.
Full (3 day) Workshop: $45 members / $60 non-members

July 9 – 11: Printmaking and Illustration
Dive into the world of printmaking, exploring a new technique every day. Students will learn how
artists such as John Sloan — whose art is exhibited in The Hyde’s summer show, From the Rooftops: John Sloan and the Art of a New Urban Space — created illustrations for the covers of magazines including Harper’s Weekly and The Saturday Evening Post.
July 16 – 18: Painting and Watercolor
The feel of the brush and the swirl of color — there’s nothing like creating a painting! Participants will learn different techniques and explore new materials each day.
July 23 – 25: Drawing and Material
A great drawing is the basis of so much incredible creativity! Learn to draw people, cities, and things you’ve never dreamed! Join our Museum educator to learn how to create in pencil, charcoal, and ink.
July 30 – August 1: Sculpture and Collage
What can you build? A building? An entire city? The children will use mixed media and sculpture-building
techniques to explore the fabric of urban life, inspired by From the Rooftops: John Sloan and the Art of a New Urban Space.
