Anne Diggory: Painting Lake George with Artistic License - Then and Now
Sunday, October 19 at 2pm
Anne Diggory's research into the painting location of nineteenth-century painter John Frederick Kensett's iconic Lake George, 1869, was recently published in the Metropolitan Museum Journal in an article that corrects the misconception that he altered the topography and clarifies the artistic choices he made to convey the drama of light on the landforms at the lake.
To research Kensett's many painting locations, Diggory spent time on and around the lake, photographing what inspired him and creating works of her own. Two of her Lake George artworks are currently on view in Anne Diggory: Hybrid Visions, September 28, 2014 through January 4, 2015.
This talk is free with Museum admission; reservations are not required. For more information on our programs please contact June Leary, curator of education, 518-792-1761, ext. 327 or firstname.lastname@example.org
