Volunteer to be a Hyde Tour Guide
The Hyde Collection will
begin a new docent (tour guide) training with an introductory session at the museum on
Thursday, January 17, at 10:30 am.
What is a do
cent? A
docent is an integral part of museum services. By engaging in conversation about
the history of the museum, the objects and art in the collection, or the works
in exhibition galleries, a docent truly enhances the visitor’s experience
making their time at the Museum personal, educational and interesting. Docents meet
people from all walks of life and from around the globe.
The Hyde’s docent training is completed
after six two-hour classes with the educa
tion department. Trainees are mentored
by experienced docents to prepare to lead informative and entertaining walks
though Hyde House and the exhibition galleries. After training,
volunteers are expected to commit to a flexible schedule of two to four-hours
per month and may choose to work with adult tours and/or school tours.
