Emerging from the Shadows: Edward Hopper and his Contemporaries
June 14, 2014 - September 14, 2014
Edward Hopper (1882-1967) engaged in the aesthetic of shadows and their primacy in representation. Hopper's use of shadows is a signature motif of his work and an integral part of its power to enthrall viewers, emphasizing the sense of alienation, anonymity, and isolation of the human condition. The exhibition will feature approximately twenty-five works on paper by ten artists, primarily etchings on loan from museums, private collections, and selected from The Hyde’s permanent collection.
