School Tours
The Hyde Collection’s founders, Charlotte and Louis Hyde, held a special place in their hearts for education and the arts. While Mrs. Hyde still lived in Hyde House, art classes were often held in her courtyard. The Hyde continues to promote arts education opportunities – school tours being a major Museum offering.
All school tours and studio activities are offered free of charge.. However, we ask teachers to request that students consider a donation of $2.00 each for their visit.
The Hyde Collection offers a unique combination of historic house and modern museum complex. A qualified museum educator (called a docent) will guide your class visit. All programs are easily integrated into classroom curriculum and are designed with the NYS Common Core Curriculum in mind.. School programs may include tours of historic Hyde House, special exhibitions (see our current and future exhibition information), and hands-on projects in the Louis P. Brown Art Studio.
Tour themes for pre-school through college level students include: Portraits in Art; Art Critique; Architecture; Stories in Art; The Middle Ages and The Renaissance; and much more. We are also happy to help you plan an exciting trip customized to fit your specific classroom needs.
HYDE OUT in the Classroom
A museum educator will visit your classroom as a pre-visit introduction or as a stand alone program. Hyde Out programs can include handon acitivities and Visual Thinking Strategies.
